Dutch Barge Klipperaak

The sharp aft of the Clipper provides the skipper with little space in the aft cabin and, for its length, less cargo capacity. Both in northern and southern shipyards, Aak ships with a clipper-like bow were built. In particular in Overijssel, it often involved an Aak bow with a staff bow and a “theetuitje”. These Klipperaak with the full aft of a Hasselteraak were sometimes called 'Klipper with horse ass'. In North Brabant, and particularly in Waspik, they built stern Aak ships for river navigation and these had a particularly beautiful peaked aft. A Klipperaak with such an aft was called a 'Waspik Klipperaak'.
